Rosieville (Original Theatre Soundtrack)
October 2026
The first 2 singles, ‘Theme for Rosieville’ and ‘Glass Pianos’ are available now!
Original music inspired by the play 'Rosieville' by Mary Rachel Brown. Music from the world premiere production of Rosieville by Canberra Youth Theatre, Ngunnawal Country (Canberra), 2023.
This album, by virtue of being a soundtrack for Rosieville, is about family, perseverance, Canberra... and an imaginary motivational pigeon. The first half of the album is mostly (though not exclusively) chill and ambient. The back half is mostly (though not exclusively) exciting and orchestral. I also have been able to feature my two talented collaborators (and Library of Alexandria bandmates) Lari Alexandria and Jarrah Palethrope. Lari plays a swinging piano solo on Track 1, 'Theme for Rosieville’ that perfectly complicates the youthful Play School-style title track. Track 10, ‘The Sky Doesn't Ask if You're Ready’ features Jarrah on a host of percussion instruments that breathe life into the instrumental road song that served as the curtain call for the original production.
I love this play, and I loved working on it. It's a play about loving and understanding each other. About building and sustaining families and communities. About Canberra, my home. About pigeons, which at first felt weird, but I grew to love. Especially after I was lucky enough to be able to record genuine Canberra racing pigeons kept by a breeder while working on the original production.
