The Library of Alexandria
… are a free-improvisation trio based in Ngunnawal Country, Canberra. We freely improvise all our music. We make music inspired by graphic scores, unique challenges and whatever is happening in the moment around us. Our sound is informed by a wide breadth of jazz subgenres - and whatever we play or suggest to guide each other.
Improvising all our music, we never play the same thing twice and make everything up live on the stage, in the studio - or wherever we play.
We want to play live in unique places, make connections across Canberra with wonderful people, and bring one-of-a-kind music to welcoming spaces.
Consider hosting us at Sisters Inked!
We'd be super interested in playing at Sisters for an event where customers can be tattooed while a live band performs music in the room alongside them.
Why we would like to collaborate with Sisters Inked:
Your talented artists can connect with our band, and make cross-disciplinary artistic connections.
A unique opportunity for customers to be tattooed while a live band plays. We can even record our set, so they can take home a tattoo AND a musical memento of their time under the needle.
A great source of social media content. People are always intrigued by seeing things they already know and like, in new contexts. Tattoo fans have never seen a live band play in a shop - neither have music fans. Take a look at this video of a jazz band in a climbing gym as an example of the kind of content we could make together.
We could (potentially) be open to having members of our band be tattooed during the event - and if safe to do so, tattooed while playing music.
We can make music directly inspired by the tattoo art taking shape around us. We make music inspired by visual art all the time, frequently performing graphic scores.
Because we improvise our music, we can adapt to the setting. If we want more of a loud party vibe, we can play more energetic music. If it’s important to keep things relaxed and ambient so the artists can focus - we can do that.
We admire your anti-AI stance, and feel aligned with it. Making music that cannot be replicated by a machine (live, improvised together, in the moment) is really important to us. Welcoming, artistic, unique social events are, we believe, exactly the kind of events that we need - and that people desire, as AI becomes more widespread.
We love the inclusive space you have nurtured, and we would love to to contribute to a positive inclusive event at your studio.
We’re very interested in working with you on a unique and memorable event, if you’re interested in having us. Get in touch either via Instagram, or via Paddy’s contact below. We’d love to talk further about what a collaboration could look (and sound) like.
